NCC Turnaround Project

History

One of the aims of Newquay Christian Centre is to be a social centre to the community. It aims to be relevant to the culture in which it is located and to communicate this on a practical level. In 1997 the Church realised that young people from socially excluded backgrounds struggling in life due to experiences such as abuse, leaving care, street homelessness and lacking the skills to maintain a tenancy needed extra support in order to break out of difficult circumstances.

It was recognised that in order to change negative circumstances and behavioural patterns that young people needed a safe and secure home environment in which to develop and build the foundations for their future lives.  After extensive fundraising, the Turnaround Project opened its doors in January 2004. Since this time, more than 50 young people have lived within the project and have had the opportunity to turn their lives around.

Mission Statement

The Turnaround Project is Christian based, and is administered by Newquay Christian Centre, a registered charity (number 251549). It exists with a primary objective of giving pro-active support for vulnerable men aged 16-25 from disadvantaged backgrounds. These young men may be homeless, care leavers or in housing need.

The Turnaround Project encapsulates Christian values and principles with a view to diminish poverty associated with housing need, at all times promoting and enabling young people to acquire the relevant skills for unsupported independent living.
