NCC Turnaround Project

Intro

Since Turnaround opened its doors in 2004, more than 50 young people have lived within the project and had the opportunity to turn their lives around. It is always a joy to hear positive stories from ex-residents who have moved-on..

Joe Taylor

I was involved in smoking cannabis up in Manchester and getting involved with the wrong people and getting arrested every weekend for going out drinking and fighting. I got taken to court for joy riding and got convicted with a six month referral order. After I had finished this referral order I knew I had to change my ways, so I moved to Cornwall with my cousin and auntie for a fresh start and got myself into college to do a Sports Diploma. At this time I was moving around into different student accommodation because I could not keep my accommodation because I wasn’t keeping to the rules, I was out partying. After this my Connexions Advisor told me about the Turnaround Project. I came for my interviews and got offered a place and since then the Turnaround Project has helped me in different ways in keeping my accommodation, cleaning, cooking all the accessories you need later in life to keep accommodation. Turnaround have also helped me with my career with pushing me to find information about the RAF one of my careers that I would like to do.

  Jammie Massey

My name is Jamie Massey and before I moved into Turnaround I was involved in drugs, drink and fights. I knew there was a time for me to change and I knew moving into Turnaround was going to change me. While I was at Turnaround I learnt how to cook homemade pizza, budget my money – I had a £466 debt they helped me sort out my money so that I could pay it off. They taught me how to do a good kitchen clean, and they helped me get better at reading and do literacy and maths at Link into Learning. I started to learn to play the bass guitar and as I got better I am now in a band called Tommy’s. The most important thing that I did at Turnaround I found Jesus my Saviour King. And now I’m in my own place which I found myself and Turnaround helped me to set it all up. I am now working / volunteering at the Source Café, if you’re ever around come in. If you want a chat, ask for Jamie.
